Entering the vibrant world of the hair and beauty industry can be an exhilarating journey, filled with endless opportunities for growth and creativity. But, if you are in fulltime employment, how can you “dip your toe in the industry” and start to gain skills before making the switch to a new career path?

At Omni Academy, we believe that everyone deserves the chance to pursue their passion for beauty, which is why we offer a range of beginner-friendly training courses that you can complete alongside employment. Here are three options that require no prior skills or experience (other than a good command of English for the exams and coursework).

1 – Swedish Massage Training Course

Qualification: VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Swedish Massage

Duration: 4 weeks, 1 day per week (Saturday option available) + assessments

This training course is suitable for complete beginners to beauty and massage. It is the most commonly used qualification type for body massage.

What will you learn?

Our Swedish Massage Training Course covers the full body, including the scalp, head and neck. It demonstrates the use of infra-red lamp, gyratory machines and audio-sonic vibration.

Topics covered in the training course include:

  • Hygiene, Health and Safety
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Consultation, Client Care and Aftercare
  • Techniques & Effects: Physical and Psychological of Manual Massage
  • Classic Massage Movements
  • Adaptation of Massage Movements, Working with Different Mediums
  • Contra-indication / Contra-actions of Massage
  • Meditation and Relaxation Techniques
  • Case Studies

When can I start?

There is a course starting on Saturdays on 17th August 2024 (and running for 4 consecutive Saturdays). But, if your current employment allows flexible working, you may be interested in starting on Thursday 16th May or Thursday 9th October.

2 – Manicure and Pedicure Training Course

Qualification: VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Nail Treatments

Duration: 3 days (2 Fridays and 1 Saturday) + assessments

This expert Nail Treatments Course is designed for aspiring nail technicians, beauty enthusiasts and individuals seeking to master the skills of providing professional manicures and pedicures. 

What will you learn?

You’ll gain practical, hands-on experience through detailed classroom tutorials, allowing you to perfect your skills in nail shaping, cuticle care, polish application, and more. You will learn from seasoned industry professionals who bring a wealth of experience and knowledge.

Topics covered in the training course include:

  • Hygiene, Health and Safety
  • Anatomy and Physiology relating to the Hand and Foot
  • Nail Diseases and Disorders
  • Nail Painting / French Polish
  • Specialised Manicure / Pedicure Techniques; Hot Oil / Paraffin Wax
  • Consultation Procedure
  • Contra-indication / Contra-action / Client Care
  • Case Studies

When can I start?

There is a course starting on Friday 20th September and finishing a week later (running Friday 20th, Saturday 21st and Friday 27th September 2024). If you are in fulltime employment on weekdays, but looking to move into the industry, this could be a great way to use a couple of holiday days!

3 – Facials and Skincare Training Course

Qualification: VTCT Level 2 Award in Facial Massage and Skincare

Duration: 4 weeks, 1 day per week + assessments

For students wishing to change career, this course covers all the introductory requirements – allowing you to start building qualifications via short courses. 

What will you learn?

The Facials and Skincare Course will teach you everything you need to know, to enable you to perform a full facial on a client.

Topics covered in the training course include:

  • Hygiene, Health and Safety
  • Contra-indication / Contra-action / Client care
  • Provide skin care , skin analysis, skin types/conditions
  • Skin cleansing / toning / exfoliation
  • Steam and extraction
  • Provide face, neck and shoulder massage
  • Masks, clay / specialised / biological
  • Moisturising
  • Client advice and guidance
  • Case studies

When can I start?

For an option that takes place on Fridays and Saturdays, our training calendar currently includes a course that runs on October 5th, 11th, 12th and 18th 2024.
